Water Jet Cutting Examples

Water Jet Cutting in Lincoln Nebraska. Our Machines are capable of cutting anything.

I Am a Man – Tribute to Standing Bear Art

Thanks for the awesome job!

Just hung the exhibition yesterday and this is “I Am a Man – Tribute to Standing Bear” that you cut for me:)

Water jet Cut out of Glass

Water jet Cut Art

I Am a Man-Tribute to Standing Bear. This was water jet cut out of glass that a local artist created.

This was  Water jet Cut out of Glass that Carrie Strope Sohayda a Local artist made.

She then put this beautiful art piece together and was on display  in the Governors Mansion of Nebraska. With our water jet we are able to cut all kinds of material that conventional machining or cutting techniques would not allow.

“I work with glass integrating different techniques, including mosaic, kiln-formed (or fused) glass, glass painting and stained glass. I enjoy experimenting with and combining various techniques and processes, using them to add new facets to my work. I am influenced by intricate geometric designs and color exploration, incorporating a love for quilting, textiles and bright colors inherited from my mother, who was an avid quilter. I love the meditation of breaking glass into many pieces, building them together into a new form. I enjoy that kilnformed glass can be a challenge. There’s always a chance for surprises and accidents. When the kiln lid closes, the glass can shift as it changes from a solid to a liquid and back. The transformative and independent nature of kiln-formed glass and its lessons of detachment have helped me evolve not only as an artist but also as a person, and makes me want to share glass as a medium with as many people as possible.”

We can cut basically any material up to about 6″ thick. We can cut aluminum, stainless steel, hardened tool steels, mild steel, ceramics, glass, tile, wood, plastic, stone, rubber, foam, insulation, and just about anything else you can imagine.

2.5″ Thick Steel Brackets cut on WaterJet

With this process there is no heat distortion of the material and no Slag left over

Here is an example of 2.5″ thick steel that was cut on our Waterjet. Each of these parts weighs over 300lbs. Notice how the water jet cut edge is very good.

We are a Job shop located in Lincoln Nebraska. We are right in the center of the country. We have many different things we can do for you. Some of our equipment include CNC Machining centers, CNC Turning Centers, CNC Saws, 4000 watt Laser 5′ x 10′, Water Jet 6′ x 12′, 12′ CNC Press Brake 250 ton, and many more. We also have in-house powder coating, Welding and an assembly dept. If you would like to get a quote on something give us a call at 1-877-566-0326 Ask for Sarah or Dane. Our Water Jet can a cut a wide range of materials. It has cutting bed of 6 ft by 12 ft

An important benefit of the water jet cutter is the ability to cut material without interfering with the material’s inherent structure as there is no “heat-affected zone” or HAZ. Minimizing the effects of heat allows metals to be cut without harming or changing intrinsic properties.

Water jet cutters are also capable of producing rather intricate cuts in material. With specialized software and 3-D machining heads, complex 3-D shapes can be produced.

The kerf, or width, of the cut can be changed by changing parts in the nozzle, as well as the type and size of abrasive. Typical abrasive cuts are made with a kerf in the range of 0.04″ to 0.05″ (1.016 to 1.27 mm), but can be as narrow as 0.02″ (0.508 mm). Non-abrasive cuts are normally 0.007″ to 0.013″ (0.178 to 0.33 mm), but can be as small as 0.003″ (0.076 mm), which is approximately the width of a human hair. These small jets can make very small detail possible in a wide range of applications.

Waterjets are capable of attaining accuracy of 0.005″ (0.13 mm), and repeatability of 0.001″ (0.025 mm).

Water jet is considered a “green” technology. Water jets produce no hazardous waste, reducing waste disposal costs. They can cut off large pieces of reusable scrap material that might have been lost using traditional cutting methods. Parts can be closely nested to maximize material use, and the water jet saves material by creating very little kerf. Water jets use very little water (a half gallon to approximately one gallon per minute depending on cutting head orifice size), and the water that is used can be recycled using a closed-looped system. Waste water usually is clean enough to filter and dispose of down a drain. The garnet abrasive is a non-toxic natural substance that can be recycled for repeated use. Garnet usually can be disposed of in a landfill. Water jets also eliminate airborne dust particles, smoke, fumes, and contaminants from cutting materials such as asbestos and fiberglass. This greatly improves the work environment and reduces problems arising from operator exposure.
